2023 - Kickstart a new life

After 2 attempts, I finally managed to drop my computer and jumped on a 40ft catamaran to achieve the next items on my dream list!

A fresh start

The plan was set in my head. I was just waiting for the right moment to achieve it. The next step was crossing the Atlantic on a sailing boat. So when my contract ended, a captain asked me if I was ready to onboard. The answer seemed so obvious... Two weeks later I passed the basics certificates to work on boats and one month later I was in Corsica, ready for the adventure. I did not know exactly what was going to happen, but it seemed like the right thing to do.

A human experience

The crossing took two months with people I did not know anything about. We all had different backgrounds and expectations, but for all of us, this journey was a way to step forward in our lives. Together we went through storms and long moments of introspection. The shifts followed one another but were never the same. It was the opportunity to share a lot about what we achieved, what we believed in and what we were hoping for... In a sense, it was a way for all of us to grow.

Moving forward

Of course, when the coast of Martinica appeared on the horizon, the question came out: going back or keep going? For me there was nothing to go back to. The next step was to make some money to proceed to the next item on my dream list: dance a tango in Buenos Aires. From there I followed my lucky star that put amazing helpful people on my way. Chris introduced me to the yachties community in Antigua, Paul tought me the basics of boat handling and offered me my first job; Lilly took me in her house and tought me the basics of floral arrangements for boats... I had my guideline: sail the Carabean Islands to learn about plants and tropical environment.

Exploring options

At that time, I did not know exactly where this would take me, so the only path was to follow my guts and take any opportunity to get closer to Buenos Aires. That way, I jumped from Antigua to Saint Marteen, then I had a lift to Dominica and back to Martinica. On the way, more extraordinary people, flowers and of course new options. Exploring is so exciting! But it can also be overwhelming 😰

After two months jumping from one boat to another island, I was exhausted and I still didn't understand what I could do with my life...

Back to the plan...

I discovered so much on the way, specifically on my capacity to adjust and my expectations. But I was worried to get lost and to get away from my objectives. So I sticked to the plan: Buenos Aires. It took time before I managed to find a way to reach the continent and my resources were lowering down. At some point, decisions had to be made. The trip will be shorter, but I would learn spanish and dance a tango in Argentina.

The money I earned on yachts helped me to get a plane ticket, book spanish intensive courses and the rest will be for dancing... No matter if I would eat pasta every day!

What will remain from this extraordinary journey is my faith in people.

Satisfactions

What will remain from this extraordinary journey is my faith in people. It is impressive what you can achieve when you find support around you. It has been rough sometimes, but I never felt alone or lost because there were always hearts and hands to support me on the way.

This journey was a dream come true and it feels like a huge personal achievement. Even if my professional future is not clear at that stage, I feel stronger to achieve any idea that will appear in the coming months or years 💪
